Sunset Primary School was built as a replacement – on the same site – for the existing school that had been used since 1941, with a few additions in the following years. Designed for a capacity of 450 students, the school gives a fresh start to the growing population of the district, and renews the legacy site, which has long been a community hub for the families and neighbors. A cheerful mural at the entry features local flora and fauna.
Each classroom features a custom reading nook with a window seat that looks out onto the forested playground. Generously-sized extended learning porches connect classrooms and offer room for both small group learning and larger get-togethers. The double-height, open library connects both levels of the classroom wing, creating a feeling of community and collaboration. A colorful gymnasium features a rock climbing wall and leads children to the adjacent covered play area.
