Matthew Rolston

Architect

“Coming from a family of educators, I see schools as invaluable spaces of learning, creativity, and equity. I feel so inspired working with communities to create them.”

Matthew is a designer with a passion for connecting people to the spaces around them. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon, earning a Master’s degree in architecture in 2019 with a specialization in Historic Preservation. While there, he also completed research projects on K-12 educational design, the future of libraries, and universal design. In his work, he aims to create an attachment between a community and its architecture by designing intentionally for the specific culture, values, and needs of its eventual users. He joined Arcadis in the summer of 2018 as an intern before accepting a permanent position. Matthew also volunteers with Architects in Schools, introducing design concepts and encouraging creative space-making to 2nd grade students in the Portland area.
